Website design and development

Not so many years ago, getting a website up and running was a costly affair. Fortunately, that's no longer the case, as the pioneering 'website builder' platform Wordpress has been caught by several other contenders – the likes of Squarespace, Webflow, Wix, Shopify, and so on. But whilst these platforms come pre-loaded with sleek templates, they're not without their pitfalls. Each has its unique strengths and weaknesses, and an awesome template can so easily be butchered if your brand or your content don't fit perfectly. That’s where Creature can help.

Creature helps businesses to setup or switch to the right platform.

step 1

Choose your platform

It's an important choice. With our knowledge of the options and their features, we help our clients get onto a web package that will serve their needs now and into the future. Because the choice of platform influences the production that goes into the build (and the required maintenance going forward), this is something that needs to be done with budget in mind. So think about what you'd like to pay and that can feed into the decision.

some common platforms and their quirks

  • Squarespace is great for clients who want to self-manage but may be restrictive in terms of design.
  • Webflow has few restrictions, with sleek animation tools and a powerful CMS, but, all that power makes it harder for you to maintain yourself.
  • Shopify is awesome in the eCommerce department but its themes are very restrictive, so choose wisely.
  • Wordpress requires a more involved setup and ongoing maintenance, especially if 3rd party plugins are being used.
  • Building a custom site or on an enterprise level platform can become expensive fast, and is usually cost prohibitive for most SMEs.

step 2

Plan, gather & sort

We'll start by mapping your story out into a sitemap. Knowing what real estate we have to fill, we then set about collecting (or creating) words, images and video. Once we have our ducks, it helps to line them up ready to be ingested into the site.

step 3

Design & populate

Depending on your choice of platform, we'll either start with a template and customise it to your brand, or, start with a concept that gets built it into a template. On a more granular level, we'll let content guide the design, ensuring the story you need to tell has all the real estate it needs to shine.

step 4

Test, test, test

Responsive design is fiddly, and even the most robust template usually needs some tweaks to ensure it pops on mobile or tablet devices. After all, most of our Googling is done via mobile these days (though, that's a generalisation, as many B2B and B2G still draw the majority of traffic from their (home) office bound clientele. There's also many nooks and crannies to a website, and so we click the hell out of your site to kill any bugs and uncover any oversights.

Ironically, websites are hard to do justice on a website... screenshots just don't do them justice! Still, below are some examples of sites we've worked on. If you'd like more information please get in touch.
