overview

Midway through a rebrand of the RNA’s ‘Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show’, Creature was asked to bring a beer event to life. The ‘Kingdom of Beers’ is the result, and in March 2020 the gates to the kingdom were swung open.

challenge

There were many… Firstly, it was its first year, so there was no brand recognition to speak of. Then, being an alcohol-oriented event, we weren’t able to lean on the RNA’s usual database for fear of ‘mixing drinks’ so to speak. Then there were the multitude of similar events being run either side of our chosen dates… and then there was Coronavirus.

solution

A sign of bigger things to come for the organisation, we settled on the royal-inspired name ‘Kingdom of Beers’. From there we took inspiration from old beer brands and their eclectic visual language, embracing this to evoke a sense of variety in the brand that demonstrates the variety of beers punters could expect to taste.

results

Timing is everything in events. A week later and I’d expect you might have seen tumbleweeds, such is the fear of Coronavirus at this time of writing. As it happened, the turnout was strong. Were people after one last pint before going into isolation? Were people needing a pint to forget the news for once? Or were people genuinely interested in the chance to taste test 100+ award winning beers from some 20+ breweries in 1 afternoon? Who knows. All I know is we had fun.
