Over the years Hyne recognised the benefits of getting their clients out to see their manufacturing process in person – having completed a mill tour most clients left as timber lovers, both understanding and valuing the craftsmanship that goes into their products.


challenge

The problem is that Hyne’s mills are literally ‘out in the sticks’ and their geographic isolation often proves too big a leap for key decision makers/buyers to make. Our solution? A digital mill tour.


process

It’s often one of those horse and cart scenarios where you don’t know the story you’re telling until you capture it, so we set about documenting the process before we solidified the user experience. All we knew was we wanted to take customers on a linear journey of the manufacturing process – from seed through to product, or in a literal sense, from the nursery through to the dry mill and dispatch. Having captured content, we created a number of video edits that would form the centrepiece for each page of the site. This was supported by 360˚ photography, stunning photography, and quirky educational content written in what we’ve coined Hyne’s ‘humble humour’ tone of voice.

A digital mill tour might never replace the real thing, but in the short time it has been in market it has already proven to be a valuable talking point. Stay tuned for more results.
